What Is It Going To Take ...

For the administrators running our college campuses to wake up?

There is something I wish to get off my chest, especially given the recent and very tragic events which took place at Northern Illinois University. When are the people running our schools and universities ever going to understand the failure of the "gun free zone?" The "gun free zone" doesn't do anything except attract the attention of those who wish to unleash gun violence.  How can I say that?  Well duh!  Because the people shooting up our "gun free zone" college campuses know there will be no one able to confront and stand up to them because they're in a "gun free zone" in the first place. The very same thing applies to shopping malls, too. It's not rocket science, folks.

Before you even continue, it is my understanding Northern Illinois University did not officially declare themselves a "gun free zone," but they might as well of after reading their policy below:

3-1.5 Dangerous Weapons:
1.5a Possession, use, sale, or distribution in any residence hall, building, or grounds under university control of:
fireworks, firearms, shotguns, rifles, hand guns, switchblade knives, any type of ammunition, explosives, and all other serious weapons.
1.5b Misuse of martial arts weaponry, BB guns, pellet guns, clubs, knives, and all other serious weapons.
Students who wish to bring firearms to the campus must obtain written permission from the chief security officer of the university. Firearms must be stored at the University Security Office except with written permission of the chief security officer of the university. At no time will any of the above dangerous weapons be allowed in the university residence halls.

The Student Code of Conduct
Northern Illinois University
(Effective August 8, 2006)

But then again, just sit back and watch how all this unfolds.  This will be the perfect excuse for the powers-at-be to come up with even more gun laws, all while ignoring the problem with "gun free zones" in the first place.  How many innocent people have to die before others realize "gun free zones" do not work?

After the debacle at Northern Illinois University, perhaps we should:

Create even more gun free zones since they seem to work so well.
Enact more gun laws?  After all, there aren't enough gun laws already.
Perhaps we should just repeal the 2nd Amendment  (And I sure someone out there actually believes in this one).
