I Hate iTunes

I for one, will never use iTunes, ever.  It's the most bloated, bug-ridden piece of garbage I've ever seen.  One cannot even install Apple's QuickTime without iTunes.  Ta' hell with that.  I don't need Apple's software.

Oh yeah, do you need to play QuickTime videos but do not want to install Apple's QuickTime/iTunes?  No problem!  Use QuickTime Alternative instead.  No bloatware.  No hidden services/processes running in the background.  No nonsense.  Why not try it?

The same goes for RealPlayer videos, just use Real Alternative.  Again, no annoying bloatware.  No hidden services/processes running in the background.  And again, no nonsense.  While you're at it, why not try it out?

Name one bug in iTunes. Just one.

I'm not saying it doesn't have any bugs-- just that I don't know of any.

It works fine for me, so I continue to use it. Of course, I have an iPod nano (previous gen), so that might be the reason. I never really used iTunes before having an iPod.

iTunes takes over your system because you cannot even install QuickTime as a "stand alone" application, for starters. iTunes is bloatware as far as I am concerned.

Why do I have to be forced to install iTunes whenever I want to install Quicktime? That's total bullcrap in my opinion.

That right there I consider a major "bug" in my estimation.

That being said: This is precisely the reason as to why RealPlayer is nowhere near as popular as it once was. Why? All the bullcrap associated with installing it.

And this is why open source software like QuickTime Alternative and RealPlayer Alternative exist. Obviously, a lot of people are tired of the bullcrap, too.

I'm not thrilled with it. I got the kiddo the Ipod she coveted, only to find out I pretty much can't figure out how to use music other than that purchased from the Itunes store. We had bought some from Wal-mart dot com and the ipod just would not accept it.

I'm told there is a way to do it, but I'm just over it. I'm glad she doesn't have a huge taste in music and is happy with a few songs on there. For now at least.

"Why do I have to be forced to install iTunes whenever I want to install Quicktime?"

Do you mean the inverse? The inverse is true so that m4a files and Fairplay tunes can be read.

As for video alternatives, have you tried VLC? I find it to be amazing. Plus it runs on multiple platforms and is in active development.

Heather, your wal-mart songs won't play on the iPod because they are WMA files. To put music on your iPod that you don't purchase from the iTunes store all you have to do is put a CD in, click import, then drag the files onto the iPod. To ensure that they can be read on other players, rip them in mp3 format rather than aac format.

I don't believe I mean the inverse. Whenever one goes to install Quicktime, iTunes gets installed along with it. If memory serves me right, the primary reason for installing QuickTime is because users want to play QuickTime movies.

However, given the above complains I outlined about QuickTime/iTunes, QuickTime Alternative is the way to go.

And yes, I am quite aware of VLC Media Player, it's a very, very good player; I've had it installed on my desktop for quite a while.

I see what happened. On the download page:

http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/win.html

There are two options, one download with iTunes, the other without. You need to pick the second option rather than the first.

Hope that clears up the confusion.

Very cool. Although, I don't remember seeing that option before. Maybe people complained?

Thank you for the heads up though! :)

Yeah, you must've just missed it. Check out the Wayback archive for that page. Looks like those two download options have been available since April of 2005. *shrug*
