I've started using this really cool add-on for Microsoft Outlook called, "Lookout."
"What is Lookout?" you ask. Well to answer your inquiry, according to Lookout's website, it is this:
"Lookout is lightning-fast search for your email, files, and desktop integrated with Microsoft Outlook™."
I say to that: "Way cool!"
I installed it (Make sure you install the latest, stable build, which is version 1.3.0), started Outlook 2003, and was prompted with a wizard asking me which folders in Outlook I wanted to index. After answering all of the wizard's questions, it started to index my inbox folders for me. It was done in a pretty quick 5 minutes or so. With Lookout, I now have the ability to search all of my inbox folders using keywords of my choice. The search will then look through all of my inbox folders presenting me those email(s) which match my keyword criteria. Pretty slick, not to mention pretty darn handy when I need to look for something on the fly. Lookout even works flawlessly with IMAP, which is what I use at work. I do not store any email on my laptop at all, this way I can be assured that I can access all of my email no matter where I am, whether it be on the road, or at home, etc.
Using Lookout has been a very positive experience for me, and I do not know how I got along with out it. Below are some example shots of Lookout:
The toolbar
The Lookout options dialogue box
The Lookout preferences tab
The indexing dialogue box
All in all, Lookout is a very handy add-on for Microsoft Outlook.
Closing, please note that Lookout is not for any version of Microsoft Outlook Express (Outlook Express is a piece of garbage anyway).
Best of all, it's totally free. Now that is a price I will not argue with.
Why not give it a try and see for yourself how well this add-on works?
